The Ogre King's Barrow
The adventure begins.

On a bright and sunny morning the town of Loudwater was shocked awake by an explosion at the southern wall. A band of goblins has blown a hole in the wall and rushed in slaughtering innocent townsfolk.

The goblins were beat back by three rather unusual strangers to town. The first was a creature that was half man and half bull! Some have said that he was working at the docks briefly before this day. Nobody in town missed his angry roar as he charged in and smashed goblins with his bare hands!

The second of this unlikely trio was one of the demon creatures that have recently appeared from returned Abeir! This hellion raised her hand to the sky and called forth lightning to smite these pests before starting a dance of death with her blade, destroying any goblins that got in her way.

The third of the heroes is the biggest mystery of all. Few agree on what lies beneath the red hooded cloak, however all saw the bolts of energy that struck down one goblin after the next in a chain of carnage that surely taught these creatures to stay out of our fair town!

Rumor has it that the goblins were after an item recently acquired by our resident dwarf and shopkeeper, Garwan. Though he declines to give any further detail about what the goblins were after, the Lady Moonfire assures us that these same heroes were sent to deal with the problem and that peace has been secured for Loudwater.

Defending Goblins?
Is this really why we were hired?

Things have been quiet in Loudwater since the intrepid adventurers faced down the local goblin tribe’s leader, High Shaman Sancossug. That is until a note was found attached to an arrow that had been shot into the towns main gates! The note was from the High Shaman requesting an immediate meeting with the local heroes. It turns out that since the group killed most of his tribe, a rival seems to be encroaching on his territory. Though reluctant to do the bidding of a goblin, the party felt that it was in the best interest of the town, and set out following the map they were given. Crude Map Along the way, our heroes rescued a merchant from a goblin ambush, then headed into the mountains to find their lair. Inside were a series of twisting tunnels and forks in the road. The party stumbled upon a large cavern where the goblins were sacrificing prisoners to the giant deathjump spider Ssitesseth. Nomine was the first to learn of the spider as it landed on top of her, knocking her down and pinning her to the ground! Her companions immediately went to work on Ssitesseth, Auna blasting it with bolts of chaos energy, but Foostus could not seem to penetrate it’s exoskeleton. Things looked bleak for a time as Nomine was bitten and poison ran through her, however the team was finally able to distract Ssitesseth, and she managed to get back to her feet. In the fight that followed, the poison continued to weaken Nomine. Foostus was bitten also, and before the battle was over, he succumbed to his wounds and collapsed unconscious to the ground. Seeing her companion fall, sent a boiling rage through Nomine that pulsed through her sword imbuing it with the power of her rage! As her sword swung down at Ssitesseth, a blinding blue flash came from the blade etching symbols into it even as it cracked the spiders carapace. Vengance sword Too much for Ssitesseth, it raced up the wall, and avoiding attacks vanished into the darkness. Our heroes took this opportunity to patch up wounds, bringing Foostus back from the brink of death. Then they waited, watching for the spiders return. From behind Auna, Ssitesseth attacked! It had sneaked down the wall hidden by webbing and was only noticed at the last moment by Foostus, allowing Auna to dodge out of the way at the last moment. A short battle resumed before finally ending with a bolt of chaos energy and an exploding Ssitesseth! Wiping spider guts from their hair and armor, the party decided to rest in this easily defend-able cavern before continuing on deeper into the goblin lair.

Spiders, and Goblins, and Bridges, Oh My!

After a battle in a fantastic cavern, (smokey cavern featuring platforms that had to be jumped accross to reach the bulk of the bad guys, and a strange magical/wind affect that rendered the smoke able to support weight at times, and not at others) THey came into a cavern with 8 exits. They could hear goblins running down all but 2 of them (a goblin escaped the cavern battle and ran to sound alarms to rouse the rest); the one leading from that cavern where they just came from, and another that they had not explored yet. I made it clear that there were way more than the party could fight in this 8 way junction, and they could go back to the cavern with the smoke to make a stand, or head down the new tunnel.

Making a dungeoneering check, they decided that the new tunnel headed towards the exit, and to try and outrun the goblins. Thus insued a skill challenge as the party ran down the tunnel, using fey tangles to teleport farther down the tunnel, and avoiding other obsticles that would have slowed them down.

In the end, they managed to stay just ahead of the goblins as they entered a cavern split by an underground river far below, and crossed with a rope bridge. Here they had to stop, however, for from the tunnel before them, could be heard the clicks of hundreds of spiders running towards them. After a brief tactical summit, they decided to douse the light and lay down on the bridge, hoping that their enemies would not see them.

Unfortunatly, the goblins did see them and shouted an attack. The party stood and faced both spiders and goblins. Imagine their surprise when the spiders split into three groups and 2 of those ran across the walls to engage the goblins! The goblins were surprised as well, since they expected the spiders to be kept at bay by the giant spider that they gave sacrifises too. I guess when a party of adventurers kill said spider…. So thanks to this “unexpected” clash of their enemies, they managed t ofight their way clear of the cavern and escape the dungeon.
